Keep a Poem in Your Pocket

To celebrate our week of poetry:

Keep a poem in your pocket
Share a poem
and a picture in your head
and you'll never feel lonely
at night when you're in bed.
The little poem will sing to you
the little picture bring to you
at night when you're in bed.
                  So-
Keep a picture in your pocket
and a poem in your head
and you'll never be lonely
at night when you're in bed.

Poetry has a way of capturing my attention and  imagination.  I find poetry beautiful and inspirational.  We just missed Poem in your Pocket day on April 18, but we can always incorporate the idea. You can write a poem or select a poem you love and share it with your family and friends.  You can even recite it to the wearied cashier at any store, and hopefully your poem will bring inspiration, hope or cheer to someone's day.

  1. What a sweet little poem. It makes me want to literally write on of my favorites and keep it in my wallet (and hopefully eventually memorize it) to really keep it with me. Now I just have to figure out what poem that will be.

  2. Cute idea! In my family, we write poems to our parents on Mother's and Father's Day. It's a lot of fun!

  3. I find poetry to be inspirational as well because it leads me to think at a higher level about my life and emotions. It helps me understand feeling. I know more about life because of poetry. Poetry enhances my view of the purpose of life and everything within that most broadest of ideas. I would love to hear more about how poetry has inspired you.

    1. If you read my personal literary narrative, "Stopping by Woods," you will see how that poem has inspired me. Thanks!

  4. One way to keep a poem in your pocket is to memorize it. These have a way of popping up and entering conversations...

    1. I agree, I have found that when I memorize a poem, it becomes more of mine to call up and think about all the time.
